Yeah white people didn't really have to experience all the downsides of the pre civil rights era, so it's easy to see why they don't consider that aspect when thinking about time periods that were great.

I think it's important to consider that just because a white person thinks the 1950s were the "good old days" doesn't mean that he thinks they were good *because* it was before the civil rights movement. It's just that white people were much less affected by it.
