As for it being a poor storytelling surrogate? Not really. In fact it's actually pretty compelling.

How hard is it to make animation in 2018 look better than 1984? The new animation is actually worse than the original.


Yeah, I've never really got the appeal of the trend. I guess it probably saves money, unless a lot of these shows are all just trying to ape each other and wrongly assume that terrible art is part of the appeal.
