Your hypothetical is ridiculous.

Even when I buy games I don't plan to play for a long time (it happens...got like 12-15 early this year and I still have 5 of them left to play), I ALWAYS open the game when I get home and pop it in, to make sure the game will load and has no immediate issues, before the mfg. warranty expires on it.

I don't buy games to put them on a display shelf. I buy games to play games. Everyone (aside from you, apparently) buys games to play them.

No, what's ridiculous is you apparently think I'm the sole supporter of the collector's market. I buy games to both play and collect and the hypothetical has happened to me probably a couple hundred times, but it's probably not happened to me several hundred times more than that, meaning I have hundreds more of opened and played games than sealed ones. Backlogs are common and when the time comes when I'm ready to pull an old one out, I'm going to either buy a used copy or a digital one if the difference in value is enough.
