Vader was literally teasing Luke about his sister, and Luke gets angry, and the anger fueled him as he briefly turned to the dark side and overpowered Vader. Notice when Luke cuts off Vader's hand and sees the cyborg parts, Luke then looks at his own cyborg hand and realizes that he is becoming just like his father, turning to the dark side. Vader beat Palpatine because it was a blind side, pure and simple. Palpatine was not expecting Vader to turn against him. Luke even foreshadows this at the beginning of the throne room battle when he tells Palpatine that overconfidence will be his downfall. Palpatine controlled Vader for 20+ years and never thought Vader would ever turn against him like that. Palpatine thought Vader was his personal puppet. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
