I can't see new games having much effect on Mario at all at this point, yeah. He already has some A+ games, one more isn't going to change much.
BotW did some Zelda-specific things which helped her specifically capture more of the LoZ vote than she has in the past.
I dunno that Link has changed that much honestly. FF/Cloud has weakened a bit and Nintendo has boosted relatively, but within that Link is roughly what he's always been.
You think thats the case? It would appear Link got a huge boost from BOTW despite being the same stupid mute character hes always been.
As for Zelda, what about BOTW was so appealing about her other than being a damsel in distress for Link to save, as always? At least TWW and related games had the whole pirate thing, and Zelda was not boosted back then.
