It can be someone who has both left-wing and right-wing ideals and doesn't 90% line up with either side. For example, I consider myself a centrist. But there are almost no issues where I think the answer is in the middle. For example, abortion rights, LGBTQ+ rights, climate change. The left is clearly right on these issues.
