Hey, I just saw an interesting documentary on WW1, focusing on the relationships between the 3 main monarchs who were leaders of their countries at the time.

It's pretty disturbing, in a way. I mean, the three monarchs were first cousins to each other, but Wilheim didn't seem to have any problem waging war on the other two. Worse still, when Nicholas II asked George V (I think it was George V) for asylum for him and his family, as the Bolshevik Revolution was getting going, George said no. I didn't even know this until today, despite having a decent knowledge of Russian history. I thought the Tsar, i.e. Nicholas II and his family were just suddenly attacked by the revolutionaries, without really seeing it coming, then quickly line up and shot. But that's the thing, I don't actually understand at all why George V said no to asylum. I'm really confused. They were first cousins, and from what I know, had a close and friendly relationship, then George turns around and backstabs him. Why did this happen?

There was fear of Bolshevik revolutionaries being amongst their ranks during wartime and the nations were already beaten down by war fatigue as it was.

Frankly, the Romanovs didn't really have a chance of escape in the first place.
