My point stands, Ash never overcame the "rivalry", which certainly ended after the match (you can't call it a rivalry if it gets abandoned after a short time, it feels like a non-conference game instead). And if you're going to call the Alain match "clean", then Mario's wins were also "clean" as well. Samus has also never beaten Mario after three attempts. I don't see how this it's totally different from Ash's case. Though I do agree with Alain's entry was quite a reverse deus ex machina, and a really bad one at that.
