Fire is godly, poison drops their armor and puts a DOT on them. Fire does more damage and DOT and with some of the engravings and bonuses it's really destructive. It can also cause them to break attack and panic Fire has the added bonus of damaging through shield enemies' block. That fire mace is apparently considered one of the best weapons in the game.
