No, he had the power of a god stolen by Zeus, but I'm pretty sure he never stopped considering himself one. And they never replaced him as the god of war, so I guess he's not really wrong.

Besides, if you're capable of killing an entire pantheon, I guess you can call yourself whatever the hell you want.
