Because 300 spartans and 50 crows aren't fitting in a single cube initial thoughts: Scrooge dies immediately. Maybe like half of the birds make it out of the starting room. Every bird dies almost immediately after that. E-209 starts opening fire on any Spartans who don't immediately leave, since they're the only armed people here. All the spartans immediately put up shields, and so we have a room full of machine gun bullets ricocheting off their basically invincible shields (seriously, they're crazy strong).
