The problem is, being part of an established cross-continuity, that can't be allowed to happen. When ~~Eddie Thawne killed himself to erase Eobard Thawne~~, that should have reset everything, but it was preserved when Barry stopped that anomaly at the end of the first season. As for why Barry didn't save his mom, he knew everything would change and decided that he liked the life he has. ~~He later changes his mind and does save her, and it still turns out to be a bad idea.
