DPS and tanking (dodge and/or damage mitigatio) is the main thing, plus spot healing via Shulk and some other abilities is enough. You kill enemies faster than they can kill you. Also Melia is great for having that small bit of passive healing that keeps your comfortable, but the problem is her AI sucks so you need to control her.
