It only cost 800 dust to trade the shiny. Did they dramatically change the formula for trade costs? I remember it being much more.

The formula's the same. At best friends, it's 40,000 for a shiny/legendary you don't already have in your pokedex. 800 is a shiny/legendary you do have, or any other kind of special trade.

I ended up evolving 5 Sceptile:

100%
87% lucky
82.2%
60% (big guy, caught at 8000 stardust)
48% shiny

Got 2 shinies total which I'm satisfied with. Gives me one to use in mid league, and one to be a Grovyle and look cool.
