My main takeaway from the episode was the sense of despair and hopelessness. This felt more like the end of the world than anything involving the night king did.

This is why it's so sad what they did in ep 3. This episode was SO much of a better and more epic fight.

They probably intentionally hyped the other one and downplayed this one to "subvert expectations" and make people think that 10 minutes of fighting would be it, making Dany's rampage more shocking.

But it's not like it needed to be shocking to be effective. The gradual destruction of everything around every character was powerful enough.

Although both in this ep and ep 3, they had to make the villain an abstract monster of pure fear. They treated Dany the same as the NK which is just a waste.
