The degradation of Tyrion to being an idiot hardly helped this and seemed to be largely done to help cement her down the path they wanted her at. Another thing that seemed to be a big issue - characters acting in ways to get them to certain places, rather than how they might otherwise or would normally in the past. "Dany goes mad at the end, so after she's handily won some bells will trigger her" If the battle had started to go to shit or the people had resisted her then that would have been FAR better for her to finally snap and be done with them. But no. We got bells being her trigger.
