The kitchen phone here has been dropped many times, no problems. Silly cells...

have an emergency while out and about? oh well, can't call for help. silly landlines...

We have a phone at work, sherlock. You're not gonna win this one.

At work and home. But nowhere in-between...

It's not even a 10 minute drive to work. Although inconvenient, I could park and walk the rest. Any other ideas? I don't live in a city or anything.

Shopping for food. But even during a 10 minute drive, you car could break down. You could walk, but during certain weather, it could definitely be safer to call for help. Even if not for you, for others. By that, if it was raining or the roads were covered in ice, someone car could slip and hit you. So, not even your own fault. Having a cell phone would allow you to call for help. And then you could safely wait in your car for help. Whether its a tow to a car shop or just back home.
