Most of the people I work with can't pronounce my name correctly but I am not a jerk about it because I don't expect Japanese people to be able to ponounce English anymore than they expect you to be able to pronounce Japanese.

there's slightly mispronouncing something due to it being in a foreign language, and then there's outright saying something incorrectly

if you know how it's supposed to sound, then you can make the effort

it doesn't have to sound perfect

That sound doesn't exist in English. You have people on here arguing over two incorrect pronunciations. Whether they say rye or ree it isn't correct. It's like Kyu (q) in that the y sound is merged into the same sylable as the other consonent. There is no vowel in between the onset and the u sound. Without practice English speakers cannot make that sound because it doesn't exist in their language. It's different than the tsu sound which does exist, but isn't present at the start of words in English. The Ryu sound is simply not present (neither is Ryo or Kyo).

But again it isn't really worth worrying about because you shouldn't be expected to pronounce foreign names correctly in your native language.
