Very different scenario you constructed. Different words with similar meanings and the same sound. The difference being a glottal stop versus a long o sound. Ryu and riyu is a very different situation. The sound and the mora are different (is two morae, whereas is three morae). Other than the at the end the initial sound is not the same. Similar to my light and right example. If the initial sound is different we don't get confused normally. That you think they sound similar is again due to you being a non-native speaker. Unless you have practiced it isn't a sound you can hear easily so most people default to reeyuu or ryeuu because those sounds exist in their language. Just like Japanese do with light and right.

It's weird you simultaneously mock people for not being able to say Ryu correctly and also believe that it sounds similar to their incorrect pronunciation. It's like your only consistent stance is be angry and claim other people are stupid, wrong, etc. Pretty sad.
