Topic | [VGMC] d53: Servants of the Scourge vs Id (Purpose), Silver Surfer vs A-to-Z |
rwlh 05/19/19 12:01:30 PM #36: | 22. Terraria Calamity - Servants of the Scourge (Theme of the Sentinels of the Devourer) (7) (over Challenge to the Vertex) vs. 27. Fire Emblem: Awakening - Id (Purpose) (7) (over Dornward ~Junge~) Closest match of round 3 so far! Servants of the Scourge is a song I always think I'm going to like more than I actually do. The intro is so promising and then it just lasts for so long without doing much else. I think I like the second movement the best, with its frenetic deep-bass assertiveness. Honestly though if I rerated the song, I'd likely give it around 6 or so. It really depends on my mood. Id (Purpose) is a song that likewise has a strong opening before eventually deviating and doing something else. Unlike Servants, I stay with Id (Purpose) the whole time. It's quite a ride - very uplifting and heroic and destiny, but not cliched. It's always doing something interesting. This is the first time I'm deviating from my round 3 rankings. and 30. Silver Surfer - Level 1 (6.5) (for Devil Trigger) vs. 24. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana - A-to-Z (7) (over Downtown Jazz, In the Flame) Another close match! I'm a big chiptune guy but Level 1 is one of those "objective appreciation" songs that never moves me emotionally. Lots of impressive technical stuff here, but I come away feeling exactly the same as I did before the song started. A-to-Z is prototypical Falcom, so you'd think I wouldn't like it, but the melody is very strong and the energy is HIGH OCTANE. The violins aren't overpowering, which is key for me to like a Falcom track. This one was a real sleeper hit for throughout the contest - I've voted for it every round (though its competition hasn't been, well, competitive), and I'm voting for it here! Votes: Id (Purpose) A-to-Z ... Copied to Clipboard! |
