Pretty much. Way I see it is humans like many animals are territorial by nature. But for rats snakes etc I have a few indoor cats and several feral outdoor cats I persuade to stick around by giving them a little food and always keeping a water bowl out for them. I never see snakes or rats around and I live in a heavily wooded area near a swamp. Basically at that point its just the food chain working as intended.

Edit. Leaving food out has caused opossum to show up but they are harmless. They dont bother the cats and the cats dont bother them. Hell even seen a cat eating side by side with one.
