The early episodes were decent, but nothing that would make you consider the show one of the greatest. I remember the pacing being slower and the transition music less vibrant.

Various critics considered the season 2 episode The Chinese Restaurant to be the first classic episode and a turning point:

"The Chinese Restaurant" received very positive responses from critics and is considered one of Seinfeld's first "classic episodes".[9][31] Kit Boss, a critic for the Ocala Star-Banner, wrote that the episode was "like real life, but with better dialogue".[32] Various critics and news sources have praised how the episode defines the show's "show about nothing" concept.[33][34] Critics have also noted that aside from being a turning point for the show, the episode also became a turning point for television sitcoms;[35] one South Florida Sun-Sentinel critic commented that the episode, along with the season four episode "The Contest", "[...] broke new sitcom ground and expanded the lexicon of the '90s."[1]Vance Durgin of The Orange County Registerpraised how the show "wrung" so much comedy "out of a simple premise".[36]

Also, the original theme song was awesome:
