If you hit a pet, you must stop your car and remain at the scene. You must either make contact with the pets owner and exchange information or call the police. Its a misdemeanor to commit a hit and run involving a dog or other pet. Only a misdemeanor but still illegal. The least you could do is take the pet to a vet to see if it is chipped.
