See, I used to be "straight edge" back when i was in high school, though I never called it that, I just thought drinking and drug use was dumb. But, when I turned 21 I started drinking, realized it can be fun, and so on and so forth. Now i use weed a lot and I drink once in a while(never to get drunk, just a glass or two of something nice). Though I don't care about what others are doing, but it is true working in a liquor store I see people who's lived are ruined by alcohol. That is the kind of shit that worries me, but all I do is sell it.

Overall, I respect people who abstain from drugs and alcohol, though I myself do not. I guess people who are pushy about it are lame, but otherwise whatever.

I kinda think about Ian Mackaye, the guy who wrote most of the songs for Minor Threat. He never intended for his song lyrics, and indeed his song "straight edge" to start a movement or anything. He never felt like he was telling other people what to do, but rather he was just saying what he doesn't do, but I don't think he was the most intelligent at getting that part across. The song "Out of Step" originally had the lyrics "dont smoke/dont drink/at least I can fucking think" which some people didnt like, so after some debate with the studio engineer i think they reworked the song and thus the alternative version exists in which the lyrics are changed to "I dont smoke/I dont drink/ at least I can fucking think" as well as an interlude added that goes
