All of these new changes happened after Reggie's retirement from NoA, leaving Doug Bowser in his position. Now, we all know that Bowser thinks bigger is better, what with Mega Bowser and Giga Bowser. So, I think it's Bowser's influence on Nintendo that's starting the trend! Eventually, there's going to be a game where Mario and Luigi are out of comission, leaving Bowser as the only one capable of being the hero.
