There were a ton of these movies back during the second Red Scare. And the Manchurian Candidate is one of the best, and probably the most influential of them all. Conspiracy movies tend to get bogged down in their own convolution at times. We see this again and again, especially in modern action/thrillers, where by the time the twist or revelation happens, you have no idea what the fuck is going on.
