You could conceivably make the argument that the Riddler is a victim of society and that nurture could have changed his nature. Riddler is more brilliant than Batman, and in all actuality he better represents a foil to the character than Joker. Riddler and Batman are, at their cores, detectives first and foremost. But Riddler is able to lay the clues out for Batman to solve. Consider how difficult it is to create a mystery. The Riddler really is quite underrated and his amazing personality really straddles the "love me, don't love me" attitude that I think makes a compelling supervillain. --- "It is too easy being monsters.
