I think the issue there is that they were supposed to be looking under the buoys, and not along the shore within the semi-circle the buoys created. At a point they showed a zoomed out view and highlighted the areas around the buoys in a "they're doing it wrong, see?!" kind of shot. Yeah that was lost on me. I couldn't tell the difference between what they were doing and what they were supposed to be doing.
