tone IS pretty difficult to read in text - the kappa emote exists on twitch for a reason. it's even more difficult when english isn't your first language (doesn't stop a lot of people from bashing me into the ground whenever i misread the tone of a post). it's not impossible, though.

Weirdly I find it's easier to read tone in text. You have all the words and all the context (unless posts were modded) and that's it. I feel like I'm worse at reading tone irl where you also have to deal with voice and body language and you can't just go back and re-read the words.
