Just because its simple to understand doesnt make it not stupid. Obviously no one struggles to understand ten til two, but why be such a ********** about something when you could just say what time it actually is

Maybe its an easier format to tell time in. Or quicker in some cases. Or theyre more use to it. Or they take a quick look. It can be for any reason. Why should they only tell you time in the way you want. Maybe its how they tell time for work normally because they are usually working with deadlines and its easier to say 10 til or 15 til because thats how long they have until they need to start working on something else...

Okay cool since things are usually due for me on fridays, Ill start referring to everything relative to that.

What day is it?
Two till Friday.
What day is it?
One past.

Payday is on the first of the month.
When is your rent due?
Two after the first.

My birthday is in February.
What month is Flag Day?
Four after two.

Thats obviously dumb. Its easier, more effient, and takes a lot less effort to say what you mean exactly, then to give roundabout answers. Its not about telling time how I want it told, its about telling time in a standard way thats most precise and accurate with as little unnecessary detail as possible.
