One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/26/One_Flew_Over_the_Cuckoo%27s_Nest_poster.jpg Dir: Milo Forman Genre: Drama, Comedy Year: 1975 When asked if he saw the film adaptation of his novel, Ken Kesey, once said something to the extent of "Would you want to watch your daughter be raped?" And he does have a point, though probably not for the reason he intended. Cuckoo's Nest (the film) is so good that I have no desire to ever read the novel. And I think I am not alone in that feeling. This is the movie where Jack Nicholson became Jack. His performance brings McMurphy to life--a character who reminds me of probably a dozen people I went to school with, who probably never even heard of this film. It's a realistic portrayal of a man who doesn't want to conform to the absurdity of modern society, a feeling that was just as pervasive in the 1970s as it is now. His conflict with Nurse Ratchet is your classic individual vs establishment battle, and most of us probably know the depressing reality of how that one turned out. This is a classic in every sense of the word and the first of the 50 greatest films ever made! --- "A more mature answer than I expected."~ Jakyl25 "Sephy's point is right."~ Inviso ...
