They're cute teddy bear things that look ridiculous (don't care about this myself-- jawas already kinda had this going on in ANH) 2. They make Empire grunts look like a joke (outside of Vader and Palpatine I'd argue the Empire was already hurting on that front) I guess they do make the walkers, which still had some credibility, look weak, but at that point it's more nitpicking for me. But I mean, yeah, if those things really bug you, I can see it tanking the movie hard. Like if I found them as obnoxious as young anakin I could see it. Jabba's Palace I could see having the same effect on the bounty hunters too if you really liked that part of the lore, cause they all kinda come off as clownish. Complaints about it kinda seem similar to how I felt about The Last Jedi in some ways, come to think about it. I'm like "it ruined space travel and combat forever and it ruined Luke" and people are like "heh why do you care about that nerd." --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! ...
