#44. Amadeus
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2f/Amadeusmov.jpg
Dir: Milo Forman
Genre: Drama
Year: 1984

I love classical music. To me, with the exception of maybe epic poetry, it is the highest form of artistic expression that humanity has ever produced. So naturally, a movie like Amadeus has a huge appeal to me.

Amadeus is entertaining because it combines a (fake) historical account of 18th century Austria with a contemporary "rockstar" element that is so perfectly reflective of the 1980s. Salieri is the stuffy old guard of music, whereas Mozart is the irreverent rock-god genius who is destroying all convention. It sounds almost silly when written out, but it is pretty brilliant and wild stuff. Amadeus also happens to be one of the most pleasing films visually and, obviously, aurally--making it a must-watch for anyone interested in film on an aesthetic level.
