Echo Fox was famous for being created by Rick Fox as a passion project to bond with his son. Around the time, LoL e-sports was in the process of integrating franchising, and Echo Fox was easily able to secure a spot on the LoL pro circuit called LCS, in which one of the requirements was proof of investors from major parties to secure profitability and valuation. While Echo Fox in league hasn't ever really found stable success, I believe they were serious contenders in only a single split out of about 9-10 that's happened since Echo Fox's inception into the LCS. Currently they're the last place in the league, despite having one of the members who carried Echo Fox into relevancy at one point. Despite their LoL team, they've found success in their players in various other e-sports like Smash, MK11, or CoD and has become a household name over time.

Rick Fox himself has been a major spokesperson for the e-sports scene as a whole, despite any skepticism from the general public who are not e-sports savvy. He is widely beloved by the LoL community, often times the center of attention and memes. He is in one of the lowest leagues in LoL ranked, but upon the revelation, the entire community stepped up to try to tutor Rick Fox til he rose in rank. Rick Fox is also commonly found within the crowd, cheering for his team, even within their loss, many times surrounded by more fans clamoring for his attention than people do for his own team.

However, recently Rick Fox expressed outrage at a major shareholder of Echo Fox being a blatant racist as well as threatening Rick Fox's family. Fox claimed to quit as a shareholder of Echo Fox unless the said shareholder was outed from the company, and of course the entire community and Riot Games themselves took action to defend their scene sweetheart. Riot stamped their foot and proclaimed Echo Fox is no longer eligible for a spot at the LCS unless the said shareholder is outed from the company. It's been several months since then with mysterious extensions from Riot Games without explaining why an action hasn't been taken yet, but the news is finally out, and you can see what the result is from the Reddit post I've linked there.

Clearly it's a case of an asshole having too much money for the good of a community. As the Reddit comments have said, most likely it won't directly affect the shareholder himself, and as of this moment, the current Echo Fox is gonna finish the split and disappear from the League scene to be sold to another org. The only big loss is the potential growth of the brand, as LoL is basically one of the most stable e-sports scene out there atm (don't let the articles about bubbles convince you otherwise. LoL scene grew organically, whereas scenes like Overwatch had a bunch of money thrown at it til it became a scene). Also tragic that it had to happen to Rick Fox. He's a real stand up guy
