It totally feels like a movie from the 90s, so I was surprised when I learned it came out just over 10 years ago. This is funny considering the writer started writing it fifty years ago! But IIRC he did finish it in the 90s, so maybe that's why it feels that way. I tried making my write-up as spoiler free as possible since I think the power of the movie comes out most in a blind watch-through.
