Probably right, it just felt like an abrupt end to his story for the season. They did a really good job of taking assholes like A-Train and the Deep and making them sympathetic. Like you said, makes them feel very human. Even Translucent got a 'he hangs out with his kid a lot' bit of backstory after his death. Only Homelander was a truly unrepentant bastard.
Oh, one thing I miss from the books. I wish Butcher had Terror with him. I think the showrunner said having a dog following him around would be too difficult to deal with which I can understand. We did see him in flashback but I want to see him piss on people which probably says a lot about me as a person.
