this isn't exactly true, the run button actually makes the entire game run at double speed, since the NPCs also move just as fast when using it. also, one dungeon near the end of the game was made much harder in the English version

the GBA version is a straight port of the English version. the translation patch for it adds an item called the "easy ring" which doubles all exp and money earned. it's not necessary to use
