Selphie asks if he's Rinoa's father, and he replies that he can't remember the last time she called him that. Zell recognizes the problem in their relationship, which the father being a top military officer and the daughter being a member of an anti-government faction. Caraway admits it's a serious problem, but it's not SeeD's problem. Squall thinks that isn't necessarily the case since Rinoa is his client. In a sense, Garden's directives and Rinoa's orders have the same value to him. He may use that sort of language, but he's definitely concerned for her well being at the moment. As such, he reminds Caraway that once this mission is over, they're still working for Rinoa, so he asks him not to interfere when that time comes. Caraway asks what they'd do if he did, and Squall replies that they'll act accordingly as SeeDs, which everyone else is in agreement with because they regard Rinoa as their friend now. Even as a general, Caraway has a problem with letting his emotions get in the way of his duty, much like his daughter.

Irvine tries to play peacemaker as essentially a neutral third party, reminding them that they're here to knock off the sorceress. With this, Caraway gets back to the subject at hand. For the first time, we learn that the sorceress's name is Edea, which catches Squall's attention and he mulls it over in his mind. The fact that we haven't heard her name yet is significant because Irvine probably had no idea who it was when he signed up for the job.

The plan seems pretty simple and straightforward, but it's never that easy when it's a JRPG and teenagers are involved...!
