It's almost time for Bottle Up.

I arrive and let Duwana recognize me from a distance on the other side of the game. She's been calling me names related to the color green for awhile because I came two days in a row with green shirts on -- Green, Mr. Green, Greeny, etc. -- so she corrects herself when I'm pretty yellow today...but then she recognized the snake on my face and she goes right back to the Green names.

I get a few demo tries, but the crowd's not right so I offer to come back in a few minutes. I walked around a bit and talk with the guy who runs Toss the Ball in the Bucket. Dude's name is Jury -- not Jerry, Jury -- and he looks like he's lost a lot of pool games in dive bars but I enjoy talking with him.

He shared some interesting fairground politics when I asked him how it was going. Basically, business had been bad for him this year. I asked him why, and he says it's due to location -- he makes more money when he's on the main walking path than when he's off to the side. He's also on the back side of the fair, so, I mean, I get that. Turns out a lot of locations are set up by seniority...or at least, he tells me that, though neither Buddy nor Duwana were here last year and they're in prime position. I suspect this is an excuse for the game not being as popular, but who knows. He asks me if I want to play, and I tell him I'll put $5 down if he lets someone else play a round for free. He declines, so we shake hands and I circle back to Bottle Up for the main event.
