If you have a maxed out weapon, you will roflstomp the vast majority of the game on everything other than highest difficulty. Without troops, how do you keep the 30 or so enemies surrounding you from interrupting your combos? I mean, sure, once you get going with your area attack it usually won't be a problem, but if you do get knocked down, it's hard to get back into it.
