Military isnt really a bad gig pay wise if your smart about it.

If you live in the barracks that means no rent, and no utility payments. You can eat 3 meals a day at the chow hall without paying extra. Only thing I paid for was cell phone, internet, and gas money for the first 5 years of my career. This makes it stupid easy to save money.

I deployed at my 2 year mark and didnt get taxed for those 6 months, when I returned I had over $50,000 in savings at 20 years old.

A year later I re-enlisted for a $20,000 bonus. Got promoted and earned a housing allowance which is adjusted for where you live so I was getting $1100 extra month and found a place to live for $900 after utilities I still make money on the deal. At one point I went to Airborne school to become a parachutist. I get paid an extra $150 a month now, theres my internet and cell phone bill.

Since then I deployed two more times to tax free zones. One of which I was making $75 per day for per diem, so that was an extra $13,000 on top of my regular tax free pay. Needless to say 8 years later that financially Im doing pretty alright and the longer I stay In Im just gonna make significantly more. Matter of fact if I re-enlisted next year thats another free $30,000 for me.

And if I get out Ill just go to college for free. After they pay my rent for me of course
