I think it actually says online-only on the box. Anyway, I was in a similar situation as you OP. I got a PS3 this year and wanted to give CoD a try, so I got the Modern Warfare Trilogy. Didn't really like it though, it's way too linear and flawed. I decided not to try any other CoD games as a result. That said, I voted Modern Warfare 3 because that one I actually kind of liked and it seemed that each mission was memorable.
