3. Saris Scherwil Tycoon AKA "Faris Scherwiz"

Probably the most significant playable Final Fantasy character to participate in an accidental gender reveal party, Saris Scherwil Tycoon AKA "Faris Scherwiz" continues the FFV tradition of really funny names. Saris Scherwil Tycoon, as her name implies, is Lenna's long-lost sister. But Saris did not know how to pronounce her own name so the pirates who rescued her decided to label her Faris Scherwiz instead. Faris Scherwiz, being not a moron, soon realized it would be advantageous to masquerade as male whilst surrounded by scurvy sea dogs who might not have taken "no" for an answer once she came of age.

What I like most about Faris Scherwiz is that she isn't Krile or Lenna. As she is neither Krile nor Lenna, Faris is possessing of more than a mere modicum of coolness. Her rudeness and abrasiveness give her dialogue more flavor and bite. Her bond with Syldra is genuinely touching. And her status as King Tycoon's daughter is far more interesting than Lenna's because the revelation prompts her toward greater personal change.

Perhaps the best thing about Faris Scherwiz is that, in the fan translation as well as the Anthology localization, her royal nomenclature is translated to "Princess Salsa." However, this prompted me to consume more tortilla chips as a child than I would later have preferred, so I can't quite call it a win.
