Very subdued but overlaying the kind of wildly moving countermelodies that I go crazy for in the first part of the loop, just a very very cool song. Not much to say cause it's a short one, and I know I say this a lot but it's the kind of short and sweet I could listen to for hours. Great stuff! - 43rd: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (SMS) - Scrambled Egg Zone Composer: Masafumi Ogata, Naofumi Hataya Score: 70/100 (7.2), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (SMS) (1/7) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktI0WUV8soc Somehow this song makes things work without a true melody for a good majority of its run time! Intro is crazy good buildup; 0:12~0:25 is easily my favorite part, I love the effect of the slow fade in and quick fade out! 0:58 until loop end is a good contender though as well; I love the sort of "echo" effect that moving the bass note to its own channel and having it play extended over the melody instead of sharing the channel with it. (At least... I'm pretty sure that's what is going on here lol) Very cool! - 42nd: Sonic the Hedgehog (SMS) - Scrap Brain Zone Composer: Yuzo Koshiro Score: 70/100 (7.2), Sonic the Hedgehog (SMS) (1/6) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrIE04Koiqo Okay I know I've said previous Sonic 1 SMS songs sounded like they were taken straight from Ys 1, but THIS ONE REEEEEALLY sounds like it. SUPER "retro" feel, very catchy melody, love love love that soft scale background stuff that adds a ton of depth to the song.
