It's supposed to feel like you're building a real life collection. You're supposed to acquire the pokemon you can't get in your own version by negotiating trades with other people. With just Ultra Sun you can collect every pokemon in the first 7 gens. And now Gamefreak's shills want to downplay the importance of collecting, even though Gamefreak still happily sells multiple versions and will charge money for online trading. Pokemon was literally based on bug collecting...like, just imagine if you told a bug collector that they were forbidden from collecting over half of the bugs species in the world.
