not sure if i'm on this train

mine is making stops at "this show is effectively using established and well-worn plot types but can get away with it thanks to a large budget and all the goodwill afforded by the goddamn baby yoda" plaza

that said baby yoda this episode!! ahhh. walking in on his parents fighting. sneaking to snap up a toad then spitting it out when his new friends are disgusted. all great stuff.

Somewhat ironically, when I saw that Jon Favreau was helming this project my excitement was diminished a bit because I knew he was going to infuse well-worn tropes up the yazoo. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that; it's just that I had to temper my hopes for something wilder because Favreau is very skilled at perfecting normalcy and creating easy-to-digest stories without significant creative spark. (All IMO, of course.)

And I don't disagree with your analysis, even! Yet I've grown comfortable in this shell and I'm seeing what I believe to be savvier (if kind of average) scripts and smarter directing as the show goes on. This is definitely shaping up to be "familiar holiday sock Stargate television show" as opposed to bold and spicy but it's doing better and better at the former as it goes on, I think.
