With the majority of Board 8 denizens recently polled claiming to have consumed an exorbitant number of french fries I have decided to host an intervention. Every year in America alone over thirteen potatoes are murdered in the making of this all-too-popular pop cultural side dish darling. Potatoes are quite literally uprooted, taken from their rural American farms and processed and bagged and brought to your dinner table. Sound familiar? That's right, it's the same exact thing that's happening to hundreds of thousands of immigrants at our Canadian border everyday.

This deeply disturbing cycle is far from just a local problem. Internationally, a number of potatoes considerably greater than twenty-seven are treated similarly every month. Countries with a high potato casualty rate include France and even Ireland. And speaking of Ireland, the Irish government once massacred the entire population of potatoes in order to expedite the removal of unruly citizenry threatening to leave the country. It has only been in the last century or so that the potato race has returned to a quantity approaching normalcy, but the ESPN and FAFSA still rate Irish potatoes as an endangered species.

This December, give the gift of life. Rather than contributing to the potato slaughter in the name of french fries, choose a healthier snack you can consume in good conscience. I humbly suggest... the tater tot.
