This, but it also applies to the right a well. I hate the saying "the *whatever party I'm not supporting* is eating itself" because it promotes group think rather than viewing people as individuals. We should be able to criticize, disagree, or flat out call out on the people on our side without being called a fake "liberal or conservative".

I honestly had the same experience but the opposite. I grew up a hardcore conservative.
Then I opened my mind and started understanding the left a lot more.

But I never shut off my open mindedness, which is why I still understand and respect the right on many issues too. Neither side is right or wrong.

Same background here. For instance I'm prochoice, but I would never call the prolife movement monstrous since I know where they are coming from and I'm pro-gun rights.
