Topic | what's the dumbest misconception you've heard about your area/country? |
TheCodeisBosco 02/27/20 11:31:27 AM #55: | Louisville, KY here. This is an interesting topic, because Louisville receives two different misconceptions. The first is that it's backwater Kentucky territory; the second is that this a super-progressive oasis in a red state (CAIN-TUCKEH, no less). The truth is in the middle. Redneck/good ol' boy culture is pervasive throughout the city, but we have a smattering of hipster neighborhoods where that's distinctly kept to a minimum. Louisville takes LGBT support very seriously, but I've witnessed more flagrant racism here than when I lived in the Indiana Bible Belt. It's a weird dichotomy that doesn't fall into either of the stereotypes in my first paragraph. Some accurate conceptions of Louisville, though: -It's rundown and dirty as fuck. People here litter like it's their full-time job, I've never seen anything like it. -Louisvillians go crazy about My Morning Jacket and Jack Harlow. Also, college basketball. -The cost of living is remarkably low. -The booze is fantastic. --- The music was thud-like. The music was... thud-like. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
