Those masks are meant for surgery, aka preventing crap from leaving your body.

To be fair they probably do help, if I look it up I see some doctors saying they do and some saying they don't.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surgical_mask
A surgical mask, also known as a procedure mask, medical mask or simply as a face mask,[1][2] is intended to be worn by health professionals during surgery and during nursing to catch the bacteria shed in liquid droplets and aerosols from the wearer's mouth and nose. They are not designed to protect the wearer from inhaling airborne bacteria or virus particles and are less effective than respirators, such as N95 or FFP masks, which provide better protection due to their material, shape and tight seal.

those masks are literally the exact PPE used in hospitals when interacting with patients that are under droplet contagious precautions, so the idea that they exist only to prevent particles from infecting others is downright inane
Listen, name one thing I said that doesn't line up word for word with the wikipedia article for face masks. People have no business wearing them unless they're taking care of coronavirus infected people or if they have coronavirus. The CDC does not recommend promote or condone walking around in public with a face mask.

Otherwise get off your fucking soap box and stop spreading misinformation.
